ALTERNATING PRESSURE MATTRESS REPAIR

Recently we received a call from a customer that had her alternating pressure mattress for 8 years. During the night her alternating pressure mattress "sank" in the center causing her to sink into a hole. Lucky she owned the PM8080 mattress, the system with a cell in cell design that has an emergency static cell that remains inflated at all times. The cell in cell is designed to offer a 3 " layer of protection and is used during power failures or leaks.  It prevents the patient from making contact with the medical bed frame.

The customer assumed her mattress was too old and in her words on its way "out" She called and wanted a new mattress. Before offering her a new mattress I asked a few simple questions.

#1 Is you CPR valves closed? The CPR is a plug at the head of the mattress that is designed to let air out of the mattress in the event the patient needs CPR. Past experience has taught me that sometimes a caretake changes the sheets and pulls on the tags releasing air from the bed by accident. You can make sure the plugs are back in place and "problem solved" Back to new!

In this situation the patients CPR tags we closed and I moved on to the next question.

#2 Have you checked the connectors on the cell? What is that she asked?? There are plastic tubes that come out of the air hoses in your mattress. These plastic tubes are connected to the actual cell of the mattress. If a mattress leaks air or if an area develops a depression or hole, it can be a leak in the cell. The good news is all of our cells can be replaced!!. The customer looked and identified the problem. The cells plastic tube had become separated from the cell. This did not allow enough air pressure to build up in the system causing her to bottom out. Even better news the customer can replace just the cell without having to buy a new mattress system. This little "trick" just saved my customer $1400.00
